Thomas Tatum, of Akron, and son Tré
Volunteers Make A Difference
As a Senior City Planner for the City of Akron, active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., husband and father, Thomas Tatum is a busy man. He is not too busy, though, to offer his time and resources to the March of Dimes. Working through his fraternity as part of their national partnership with the March of Dimes, Tatum serves as Alpha Phi Alpha’s Chapter Team Captain.
Tatum has been involved with the March of Dimes for several years and is truly a champion for babies. Thomas recently chaired the Akron March for Babies event, which was extremely successful, largely due to his leadership. With his help, this event has grown over 35% in just 3 year(s) to $243,000.
“I’m proud to be part of a national movement to ensure that every baby has a healthy start in life,” says Tatum. The Tatum Family has personally seen the benefits that result from the fundraising. Tatum and his family were blessed to welcome Thomas II (Tré) in March of 2006. Tre was born three months early, weighing two pounds, one ounce, and spent the first 78 days of his life in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
“We would not wish premature birth on any family… it is an emotional, physical and financial roller coaster that can tax the most steadfast faith,” states Tatum. And the Tatum family has made a tremendous effort to help keep more families off this rollercoaster. Thomas Tatum is a volunteer who makes a difference.
