Program Description: Missouri Model for Brief Smoking Cessation Training 

Missouri Model for Brief Smoking Cessation Training to health care providers who work with women of reproductive age.  The Model is built upon the evidence-based 5 A’s intervention.  .   

John Spesia Community Grant - St. Louis University

St. Louis, MO (St. Louis Division)

Amount awarded: $24,925

Program Description: Centering Pregnancy

Increase providers’ knowledge about Centering Pregnancy and ascertain their interest in and potential barriers to implementing this group model of prenatal care.

Marty Hendin Community Grant - SIDS Resources

St. Louis, MO (St. Louis Division)

Amount awarded: $25,000

Program Description: Urban Outreach

Educating  African-American pregnant women and parents about reducing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, specifically safe sleep and smoking cessation.

Sam Coryell Community Grant - Doula Foundation of Mid-America

(OzarkDivision)

Amount awarded: $15,535

Program Description: Grace Project

A comprehensive, early intervention prenatal education program for at-risk families living in poverty.

Mary McEntire Community Grant - While Kids Outreach

(Southeast Division)

Amount awarded: $25,000

Program Description:  Resosurce Mothers

Provides prenatal education to those with high risk due to youth, poverty, and inadequate access to health care providers through home visitation.

Hope Luebbering-Hulsey Community Grant - MIssouri Department of Health and Senior Services

(Central Division)

Amount awarded: $24,971

Program Description: Ounce of Prevention

Provide folic acid education and increase the use of multivitamins containing 400 mcg of folic acid among women of childbearing age by targeting central Missouri high school health education teachers, high school students, and University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing college seniors.

Amanda Scott Community Grant - American Lung Association of Central States

(Centnral Division)

Amount awarded: $15,870

Program Description: Healthy Beginnings

Educate expectant parents about the hazards and potential birth defects associated with smoking during pregnancy and/or being exposed to second hand smoke.

Susie Schaefer Hinds Community Grant - Cole County Health Department

(Central Division)

Amount awarded:  $9,949

Program Description:  Folic Acid Now

Increase folic acid education and use among women of childbearing age served by health department and/or enrolled at Lincoln University.

Total Awarded in 2008 - $159,360
