March of Dimes Building At Salk Institute Is Dedicated

LA JOLLA, CALIF., SEPT. 16, 2005 – More than 800 March of Dimes volunteer leaders from across the nation gathered at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies this evening for the dedication of a building in honor of the March of Dimes, celebrating the partnership of volunteers and scientists for research to save babies and the legacy of Dr. Jonas Salk.  The March of Dimes funded Dr. Salk's quest for a vaccine against polio (marking its 50th anniversary this year) and later provided the funding that enabled Dr. Salk to fulfill his vision to create a basic research institute unlike any other.  The event was a highlight of the March of Dimes annual Volunteer Leadership Conference held in San Diego.

The Salk Institute, founded by Dr. Salk in 1960, is staffed by 58 exceptional scientists whose basic research in the biological sciences is uncovering the molecular origins of health and disease.
